HEART KINDLING

Little things that feed the flame

Hello Hello!..

back

Well, it’s been quite a while!.. I’ve gone totally AWOL, haven’t I? Life took a little change of pace and, in keeping with my self-declared purpose of a ‘real and tangible life‘, I could not prioritize tapping away at my computer over actually living out the days away from it. I missed writing and was tempted to return here a few times. And, as you can see, here I am. Restarting 🙂 Giving it a try at least. Maybe less often and less regularly, but I do hope to keep sharing snippets of my life and thought with the small but lovely audience that used to visit this space.

In the meantime I have started a Facebook page. For all things small that do not really qualify for a blog entry. I am very aware of the tendency of our world to shred up meaningful narratives into weightless fragments of few-word status updates here and there, unable to convey much depth or sincerity. That is both the reason I stopped blogging (I felt unable to give it sufficient time and attention to dig deep enough) and the reason I am daring to take it up again (I believe it to be worth finding that time and effort). I miss sitting down and giving my thoughts time to materialize into a meaningful and shareable text that can in itself contain a level of ‘narrative’ rather than a fleeting declaration of the moment.

However, I am not immune to this tendency of short declarations, I suppose. Thus, the Pebble and Rainbow – something  between silence and actual writing. It is still at a very initial stage, but do feel free to check out (and maybe follow if you wish?..) As always, comments and reactions are very welcome!

Hope to see you soon 😉

Liebster Award for Me + a Chance of Self-Promotion for You

HeartKindling has received an award. Well, not so much an award as a peer recommendation. Liebster award nomination is essentially a friendly pat on the back by another blogger. This basically means that someone was asked to name 11 small blogs and came up with HeartKindling among them. Thank you, Donielle, for thinking of me. Do go and check Donielle’s blog InTheLupus for stories from her life with this tricky autoimmune disease.

Since there is no committee or a set criteria other than the chain-letter-like expression of love towards other bloggers, the Liebster rules seem to be rather fluid Continue reading

A Stroll Around Dublin on a Sunny Day

kombi1

Have you ever been to Dublin? If not, I invite you to take a little virtual stroll with me.

I cannot believe how fast this year is flying by. The first few months of 2014 fluttered away in such speed that they are only a blur in my memory. And here we are in May already, 1/3 of the year gone. Some of you may remember the ‘flower pot list‘ I drew before the beginning of 2014. Well, I thought it was about time to start acting on it. Or else I will be left with very many gifts to give myself towards the end of the year.

This will not be a very touristic stroll at all. I got a pointer from somebody at work about a street in the city that is packed with curious vintage, second-hand, and antique shops. So, one sunny day last week, I left my daughter with the minder, grabbed my camera bag and boarded a train to town. What you see bellow is a mix of snapshots from my stroll in Dublin city.

I wandered away from the well-known streets of the city centre towards the areas that were less familiar. There is something liberating in just strolling around, looking for something to catch your eye Continue reading

A Movie Night All on My Own

As my husband was leaving for the night shift yesterday evening, my little girl was already showing signs of being tired and possibly falling asleep ahead of our routine bedtime.

If she goes to bed early, you can put on a movie for yourself,’ – he said.

Now, I am not the person with endless ‘to do’ list, overworked and exhausted. I kinda love myself and treat myself often to little pleasures of life. And yet, it has been a time since I sat down, put everything aside and watched a movie all on my own. Continue reading

Postcrossing: Snail Mail in the Increasingly Fast World + a Little Giveaway

Let me start with a question. When was the last time you sent somebody a letter? And I do not mean e-mail. Or a printed sheet to some company querying the bill you received. I mean, when did you last sit down with a clean sheet of paper in front of you and a pen in your hand and told somebody about what is happening in your life, how you are getting on?

I used to love writing letters when I was younger. When I went off to college, even though I talked to my parents on the phone, I would still get paper letters with news from home and write them back telling about my life. My friends studying abroad as well as the ones living in the same town would often receive my heart spilt on paper. The two years of “dating” with my husband were actually a long distance relationship with numerous letters travelling back and forth between Ireland and Lithuania. (It is nice to sometime flip through them now and be transported in time).

Fast forward 10 years and I find myself hardly ever writing a letter. Not because I have no time. Continue reading
